A quote from Nike Vice President and General Manager of Global Running Patrick Seehafer stated that “Nike’s We Run series offers much more than a one-day race. “Through the Nike+ ecosystem and Nike+ community, we are able to connect runners globally, inspiring and motivating them to achieve and exceed their race goals.”
The Lagos sports commissioner said one of the many advantages of the race was that “it cuts across all demographics and sectors of society. Whoever you are, wherever you work, it is important to stay fit, and the Nike 10Km Run gives everyone the chance to exercise and improve their physical fitness in a challenging but rewarding physical activity. I therefore encourage as many people as possible to get involved and partake in what is sure to be a fun, brilliant and memorable race.”
The 10KM run started at 8am from Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island and the finish line was set at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. Many Lagosians came prepared to run the marathon for a good cause. The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola was present to start of the first of its kind marathon.
Sometime last month, Nigerian music producer Sarz whose real name is Osaretin Osabuohien was signed to an exclusive deal with sportswear giant Nike. He would also feature prominently on several events and activations starting with ‘We Run Lagos’ – a campaign created by Nike to encourage running as a part of social living.
The first 100 participants and the last 10 to cross the finish line were rewarded with a free pair of Nike shoes. Nike We Run Lagos 2013 is proudly supported by Fast forward Stores, Nigeria’s number one fashion retailer and is refreshed by Aquafina, bottled water from Pepsi.
